I'd be more willing if the sons and daughters of the rich and those of the House and Senate were over there fighting right next to them. A question like this would never even be thought of say, during WWII - and before you think that's not relevant consider there are still people alive today who served there. When we went to war in those days the sons of politicians were the first to sign up. It was traditional and expected that politicians would not send the rest of America's sons to war without sending their own as well. Not anymore.

i was in the process of joining the air force just before we went into iraq. i would go to afganistan and risk my life to protect this country from the evils that attacked us on 9/11. but the push into iraq did NOT settle with me, i discontinued my enlistment just before the swearing in. thank god i did, this war has gotten so out of hand. when japan bombed pearl harber we didnt invade mexico.

Depends on what my death would mean. Would my death directly contribue to saving this country from terrorists or save Iraq from a single terrorist or more? Then of course.

But if it was friendly fire or in a bogus war in which we can't win and are just wasting soldiers' lives... then of course not.

yes - but doing something practical like carpet bombing or dropping nukes all over the middle east after we have deported all the scum back there where they belong - then there would be no more 911's. The soviets never dared to do it - no one did - only the muslims who have no regard for the value of human life.

No. Why should I or my son die to benefit the wealthy?

Because you get paid well, you don't need to be very smart, and you can have many other advantages. The risk is high instead.

It's not about patriotism anymore.

Signing up to the army involves killing and possibly being killed. Why sign up to the army otherwise? For fun? To go sight seeing on boats? Or to fight.
