Have a 1994 Mercury Sable with a 3.8. Just did head gaskets. Now the check engine light is on. Changed the O2 sensors. Did disconnected the battery. Light is still on. Fuel tank is low did add injector cleaner to the tank. Have no scanner. Any clue?

From what you describe, you have a "hard fault", which means you cannot erase the code until the problem is fixed. Something had to be left disconnected. Get it scanned, and find out the code first before you start throwing unecessary parts at it.

1995 and before use OBD 1. you don't need a scanning tool. just a test light. go to www.ford-trucks.com. there was a thread there on how to do it. basically you just find the plug under the hood for the scanner, and hold your test light and it will work just like the tester.

Get the system scanned. A local Autozone will scan your codes for free. Otherwise its just a wild guess.

if your check engine light is on, then you have a fault with the emissions system, and need to have the codes checked

check all your plug-in connections again.
If everything is ok, the trouble code may reset after 25 ignition cycles.
