Specialised MRI scan, however the old digital-ring method is the quickest and most accurate unfortunately - just a few uncomfortable moments and then its all over.

There's a PSA test, butt it is usually used in conjunction with the digital rectum test. The doctor uses some lube on a gloved finger, you bend over and he takes about 20 seconds to palpate the area. They can tell if the prostate is swollen and possibly affected. If you're worried about getting an erection, don't. Doctors and nurses are health-care professionals, who wait until after you leave the examining room to laugh at your inappropriate erection. (Kidding.) Men get off easy (no pun intended) when it comes to physical exams. This is the most invasive exam for a man, besides the scope exams, and it is over in seconds. And you usually don't need to start this until after age 40 in high-risk groups (i.e. certain ethnic backgrounds), or even 50. A woman must endure full invasive, often painful exams from puberty or earlier, all the time, and I rarely hear them complain about them. And they are subjected to lots of indignity when giving birth. With lots of pain. So quitcherbeefin'.

Nope, not completely. Their are lots of other tests, but your urologist is unlikely to request them until after he's done a digital rectal exam. Sorry about that.

Yeah, if your prostate were on the tip of your nose. We know you aren't gay so a prostate exam won't make it so.

They don't stick something in your butt. They insert a finger. Go to a skinny doctor. They have thin fingers.
