I have a friend of mine who once told me that the best thing to use is icing sugar mixed with baking soda. They pick up the combination of the two and take it back to the hive. They eat it and...
Apparently ants cannot fart and they just blow up.
I don't know if it works but it would make for one hell of an experiment.

Figure out what in your home is attracting ants, and deal with that....my father in law once put vanilla around the areas where they were trailing....seeed to work, but I always just used ant bait traps if I found any.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water.
I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful.

Watch the path the ants take and sprinkle that path with black pepper. It burns the ants and won't hurt anyone in the household. It really works!

dawn dishwashing liquid works, red not black pepper, but,,the best thing is clean your house, you are evidently providing them a food and water source or they wouldn't be there.check under your sinks for leaking water.
