Check local radio stations, or stations in major cities of music you'd like to hear. Most stations let you listen live now.

The best one i have found so far is www.pandora.com. Its a pretty amazing website hosted by the Music Genome Project. I came across while useing the stumble feature on Firefox. You can pick any artist. It will first play a track by that artist and it will create a whole radio station around the artist you picked with songs by similar artists. Also the best part about this website...you can skip ahead if you dont like the song. They also have a rating system so if you give a song a thumbs down it will exclude it. Customizable internet radio..beautiful concept. Also it has no adverts and the streaming quality is amazing. Enjoy!

http://www.rhapsody.com

You have to make an account first. If you select the free membership, you're limited to 25 free listens per month.

I also don't see why you can't just download the song, listen to it, and delete it from your hard drive if you don't like it.
