Don't know what your budget is or what he already has, but try these on for size: A Blackberry or Razor phone (or something similar), a PDA (Palm Pilot), iPod, a GPS unit, Homedic Chair message thingy (I have one and love it), gift certificate to an electronic or tool store (or on-line store like Amazon that has both), a personal DVD player, a subscription to NetFlix. If he has an iPod how about a docking station and speakers, or car stereo adapter.

Any craftsman tool at Sears is worth the money. They have a lifetime warranty, too. Dewalt is a great power tool. It all depends on if he "tinkers" or does this professionally. Dewalt usually has some good sets in "suitcases" this time of year and can usually be found at Home Depot. Mind you, I think they are pricy - $500.00 or so for a set- but I'm told they are good quality. Our handyman uses them professionally and my brother-in-law uses them to tinker. These are cordless, so that gives you more ease of use.
