I agree with Free Soul. Life is much more fulfilling when we feel like we've faced hardships and overcome them. Self-actualization is one of the basic human needs, and part of achieving this is personal development, which comes mainly when one's character is tested. Hence alot of the issues we face everyday.
I love rainbows and fluffy stuff, and puppys, and singing happy songs, etc. It helps balance out all the bad stuff.
