Weather country, rock, blues, or soul music, I can think of 2 cities mentioned an awful lot, but was also wondering what you music experts think. ( New York -and- then Memphis) A few songs even mention them BOTH.!

LA or New York, easily.
LA because a lot of singers sing about Hollywood and celebrities, and New York because it's the most well know city in the USA and has such a huge population. Many singers are from NYC and like to sing about their childhood there.
And lots of "gangsters" like to sing about NYC and LA, because there's some very ghetto places in both cities.
And you can't forget the song "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra.

With hip-hop culture, you got a lot of references to Los Angeles and New York. These days a lot of hip-hop artists are coming out the south and Atlanta (a.k.a. the "ATL") is mentioned predominantly

Lots of cities have been featured in popular songs....London (london calling- The Clash), Chicago (Chicago- Bobby darin), Miami (welcome to Miami- Will Smith)...its hard to pick one. My best guess would be New York.
