When people say work hard...work hard in school, work hard at work, work hard at this or that....what do you believe they mean and why?

I ask since there is a set number of hours in the day, so minus meals/sleep etc leaves everyone with the same hours, so how do hard workers work?

Sorry guess thats 2 questions.

Thank you and hope this helps all. x

Well, to do "hard work" varies. Suppose there is this spoiled kid who had a silver spoons stuck in it's mouth since birth and is asked to garden for an hour (ex. rake leaves) and there is a farmer that is about the same age who had learn how to work with nature. Working hard depends on the person itself.
To answer you second question, two people might have to write a 1,000 word essay, both people write the essay that is exactly 1,000 words long. One person starts the essay like this: Once, there was a fish. It started to swim. The second person might write: Stuck in a world of aqua, the fish darted it's eyes to look... One person might get an A and another person might get an F. It's how you do the work.
I hope that answer's your question.

They concentrate very hard on what they are doing and they work fast. The best ones also use their brains to make sure that what they are doing is the right thing. It is very easy to work hard but not to have 'read the question'; so some people work hard and at the end find it was all worthless because they did the wrong thing.

by getting the job done when it's required without minimal fuss and before deadline demonstrates someone is a hardworker despite the fact you may have enough hours in the day to reply to all of your personla contacts by email- pay your bills online and do your weekly shopping online too! Multitasking and workig hard so nothing is left for oversight.

It didn't matter how hard I worked at school, I was destined to fail. It wasn't until I took my mensa exam equipped with a gin and tonic or two that I realised I was actually not that stupid. Don't work hard, get drunk!! Merry Christmas.xx

They mean to maintain focus on your long term goals and work toward them and to minimize any short-term gains that will interfere with them. Eg, don't watch TV instead of studying the extra hour.
