don't you think it's ironic that there's a higher divorce rate in conservative states than liberal states?

I'm not saying that all republicans are christian, but most are.... and if they aren't voting republican then they should reread the bible. I know I know... god is not a rep or a dem, but if he had to choose he would go with the reps (Well, if he was the christian god going by the bible). Please don't ask me for my source... i'm sure you can find it yourself if you google it.

Rick, if there's a higher rate of divorce in states that are MOSTLY reps that would mean that, yes there were were probably some dems that got divorced, but most of them were not dems. I understand one or two states, but come on there where many others. And if you ever took statistics then you would understand.

ok ok and here's one article out of many with this since some people don't believe me

karley how is this uneducated? (I'm going to ignore the fact that you didn't educate yourself in proper grammer for this).

It's the facts! A party who believes in true family morals and strong marriage values, and yet still having a higher divorce rate.

Funny how the bible says that divorce is bad and yet many people seem to pick and choose what is good and bad from the bible. No gays, but divorce is ok. No it's fine that women should not cover their heads in church, it's ok. I forgot where in the bible, but if woman doesn't cover their head during mass then we have to cut her hair off. But of course that's for another totally different argument. :-)

once again, there are many other places where you can find this statistic, i just picked that one because it was the first one. If you really want i'll put all of them on here.

aw, you have a really good point. It's sad that then many people are only getting married just because the girl got pregnant and not because they love eachother. I grew up in a catholic family and went to the churche's "life teen" thing and witnessed many of the teens "having" to get married because they got or got someone pregnant, since they don't believe in birth control or condoms. I'm not saying that men should leave after they get a girl pregnant! I'm completely for a man helping out the girl and staying with them/living with them, but marriage is something completely different. You shouldn't get married just because you got someone pregnant. It's just obvious that they'll get divorced sooner or later...

Ruth,

So what is the "correct" way of interpreting the bible quote about cutting off the hair of women? And since we are on the topic and you said i shouldn't debate it..how about the other quotes in the bible about women not being as great as men. How Women should serve the men.... do you really believe that? i'm not trying to convert you to anything, i'm just curious as to how you take that. Do you except it, or ignore it?

So now we should take some things the bible says and stamp it as an old "custom" and some others as "laws"?? That makes no sense. We shouldn't have the right to do that.

a. In liberal places- especially cities and liberal states that have most of their population in large cities- it's not uncommon for teenage girls and women to get pregnant and never get married. Ghettos, poorer neighborhoods, the projects, etc. are full of unmarried people with illegitimate kids. How exactly can you have a problem with divorce if there is no marriage to begin with? I personally believe that (usually) republicans and democrats are both arms of the same monster, but the republicans are definitely the more religious party.
b. God probably wouldn't take sides. He'd want to unite people, draw them to the Christian faith, etc. etc. etc.

Good one. It is true divorces are higher in the red states than blue ones. I think divorce has to be reduced and it's sad that couples marry but don't take their vows seriously. George Allen and Joe Scarborough, both conservative Republicans and both divorced.

I think the lower divorce rate in blue states is attributable in part to the higher percentage of married adults in those states with college degrees and advanced degrees, who statistically fare better in marriage (according to the last census).

Two cheers for divorce. It's why our Founding Fathers fought the Revolution, why the Yankees fought the Civil War. In order to guarantee everyone's fundamental right to get a divorce. Why won't conservatives wake up to the fact that divorce is what makes life worth living?

BTW, God is a Republican, but Jesus is a Democrat. It's a bi-partisan family. It works out that way, sometimes.

I've always found it amusing that the Bible Belt has the highest rate of divorce in the country. And all the while yammering about gays trying to ruin the sanctity of it. The hypocrisy is pathetic, it shouldn't amuse me but it does ;).

What is a "conservative state" or a "liberal" one? Do you mean that whole retarded Red State -vs- Blue State thing? If so, please remember there are liberals in Utah and conservatives in Massachusetts.

oz: I'm an actuary. I think I have a pretty decent handle on statistics.

As a Christian, and a divorce attorney, I don't know if your information is accurate. But for the sake of argument, okay.

Our culture has fully developed the concept of "freedom" in all its forms.

Now it's time for us to learn corresponding responsibility. Unfortunately, wives and children aren't all that sexy. It takes a certain kind of man to stick with that kind of commitment. We're not making that kind of man with our modern sense of entertainment.

Not to just bash men, we women have our faults, as well. We are wired to want our man to be pleased just by us. Kind of gets old hearing a woman cry for attention and affirmation, right?

The culprit is just our sick old world, and our sick old human nature.

I have yet to have anyone, Christian or not, tell me they thought divorce was God's plan for their lives.

It just is NOT the unpardonable sin, okay?

I doubt this is political. Many liberals don't bother to get married in the first place.
