Certainly. You know the old saying "pride goes before a fall". Pride is a close cousin of arrogance, and its father is egotism. You can force yourself ahead at others' expense with egotism and arrogance, but I wouldn't call that progress. Progress, to me, is learning to love and be loved, to accept others and be accepted, and to develop spiritually.....towards wholeness and Oneness.... to let our natural actualizing tendency flourish.

That's an interesting question. By progress, I'm assuming you mean career-wise or in reaching desirable goals? My personal opinion is yes. I think when a person is too proud of, whether it be their accomplishments or their career or their lifestyle, etc., first of all, others notice it and in general, its a repulsive quality to have. This will probably create distances and prevent potential relationships from forming. (relationships that may end up being very inducive to acheiving your own personal goals, whatever they may be). Also, pride can give you a false sense of superiority which can cause a person to take bigger risks,(some risks that shouldn't be taken) or not take consequences seriously enough. These can also impede progession on many levels.
The key is that pride is not always a bad thing, as long as its taken into perspective and not blown out of porportion. A tiny bit can be quite helpful but more than that can become quite bad. Afterall, why would someone say "pride comes before a fall" ?
