i use a&d ointment. it works wonders, but it is a little expensive. its well worth the money though. letting your little one run around naked in sunlight also helps clear it up quick.

Sometimes its not always diaper rash. : (
Depending on the baby's age, what they are eating, and other things it could be a few things.
When my little girl was about two weeks old she got this nasty looking thing on her bottom. I treated it like diaper rash bc I knew no different. After about two weeks I took her to the dr and found out that bc she was bf and so young her bm were more acidic then when she is older. So it was actually a sore. And bc diapers are so moist there was no scabing just a lot of open wounds. It stayed for about another two weeks and then started to go away on its own. I used vaseline to cover it when she was in a diaper so it wouldnt get any wetter then nessacary and tried to keep her out of diapers as much as possible during the day.
Also, it could be a yeast infection. That could be caused by what they are eating. They have an ointment for it at the dr office.
If it is a TRUE diaper rash....no diapers are the best solution. : ) And keeping the area as dry as possible. Try using a blow dryer (on cool of course) on the area for a minute or two. It will feel neat to the little one and help dry the area out.
Good luck and depending on how long they have had this - go to the dr. They should know more.

Use a diaper rash ointment and also dont only use baby wipes to clean there behind after each change but use a baby washcloth. Also change the diaper alot more frequent. Hope it goes away soon.

Sometimes diaper rash isn't always diaper rash...it can be a yeast infection. Aside from trying various creams and the such try and air out baby's bottom as much as possible...be prepared for messes!!...After every diaper change i would air out my daughters butt to make sure after wiping and cleaning etc it was dry so as not to lock away added wetness.
Good luck, its never fun looking at their poor soreness

I asked my doc the same thing......he said the best cure was to always ensure that the area is clean and very dry before you put another diaper on. He suggested to even use a hairdryer to dry the bottom, they love the noise. Also, I have found that the best cream for a babies bottom is SUDOCREAM. It is much better than anything else on the market as far as I am concerned. I also like to try to leave my daughters bottom exposed in the daytime for a few minuites each day. (and hope she does not pee on the bed!)

Try the Aveeno diaper rash cream. It worked best for me. And if you do use baby powder put in into your hand away from the baby. The powder dust can get into the lungs and it isn't good for the baby to breath it in. That is why my doctor never had me use baby powder on any of my kids. Good luck to you.

This is going to sound odd but when my little girl had diaper rash my grandmother told me to put flour in a skillet and scorch it and put it on like you would use powder and it worked better than the prescription the Dr. gave me (it doesn't smell very good).

If you are keeping the baby clean and not leaving it to sit in dirty wet pants continually then it may not be diaper rash.
Your child may be alergic to the type of disposable you are using. Try a different brand.

Do NOT use corn starch, no matter what your mother says. Most rashes are caused by bacterial growth, which corn starch will help, not stop, from growing. Try balmex, airing out baby's bum as much as possible, and changing daipers frequently
