To me it would be like someone asking why are people straight?just wondering it seems like alot of homophobic straight people have so much to say (mostly negative) about something they know so little about. ie...being gay or lesbian..NOT being around a gay or lesbian. big difference.

Now, keep in mind that it is that person's personal opinion. Perhaps they have the experience of knowing the answer through a gay friend or relative. If the answer seems to be negative, it is still just an opinion that they have a bout the subject. One does not have to be a scholar to have an opinion about any given subject. One does not have to have a direct experience on the subject either when just giving an opinion.

I think we've all spoken about something we don't know the answer to because sometimes having an answer--even the wrong one--provides a sense of safety. I've even known gay and bi individuals who discuss the issue of what determines a person's sexual orientation simply because they want to explain why they're different. I agree that it's the same thing as asking why someone is straight, but the question does serve a purpose. The merit of that question, however, is for you to decide.

Personally, I believe we are all attracted to different qualities in other people. Sexual orientation is not genetic, contagious, or the result of environmental factors. While people do not choose to be discriminated against, I believe we choose our sexual orientation. The truth is we could each date anyone we choose, regardless of gender, race, religion, etc. We choose who we date based on personal preference, and if that preference happens to be the same gender, how is that wrong? However, the majority of society still views homosexuality as immoral, and that sparks the question why people would want to be gay. What they're really asking is why people are immoral in that particular sense, which is only a valid question if you believe homosexuality to be immoral.

I mean i didnt like gay people when i was younger but now that im out of school and yes i did have some gay friends and i kinda understood what they were going though cause they did get hated on for what.. being in LOVE? I thought that was wrong and felt sorry for them, i believe people should shut their mouth and keep their hateful words to their self. But i mean that will never happen cause this world has gotten so out of control its unreal, i wish we still live in those times when we had to kill our supper its sad really.

some people dont understand homosexuality, some of these people believe its a choice. In fact, on the current Real World on MTV, they are going thru the very same thing.

I personally don't believe it's a choice. but there are others out there that just don't know. thats why they ask.

Because some of us straight people have gay friends and we've discussed the subject with them.

I wish people like yourself would try to justify how you decided to be heterosexual and tell us exactly when you decided it.

The resonse from kycollege is particularly shameful because I'm in KY. One would be hard-pressed to find someplace more ignorant about gays than our state.

No problem with gay people but, ALL I KNOW:

--Is that as a woman, it SUCKS!!!---To have a crush on a man whom you later find out is gay!!---especially if the dude is drop-dead gorgeous
