Off the top of my head, I just got around to reading William Gibson's "Pattern Recognition". It tells you a lot more about marketing & consumers than "The Devil wears Prada", so that might be an interesting choice?

Maybe something lighter? Alexander McCall Smith’s
"The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency".

Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers recommends these books if you like to be happy! OK, you might not even like their music, but worth a read - I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy those books : )

Lindsey Davis writes good entertaining novels on ancient Rome with a feisty action hero & his equally stubborn girlfriend, your group might enjoy those?
The first one in the series is called "The Silver Pigs". (the pigs are lead ingots mined in Britain by slaves).

Or how about:
"Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver? Ecology, farming, stubborn people who manage to get along regardless.

Nevada Barr writes great Park-Ranger/Detective novels.

Orson Scott Card's "PastWatch" is my favourite of his - what if Columbus had been able to speak to someone from the future?

Steven Johnson's "Everything Bad Is Good For You" - should be good for some debate! Maybe that's too heavy going though?

Charles Frazer's "Cold Mountain" is a a good story about people trying to survive the American Civil War.

I hope you find some great books for your group!

this is an advanced fantasy novel that takes concentration to follow it, but it's really good. "Gardens of the Moon" is book one in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, and I highly recommend it because Steven Erikson is one of the most in-depth authors I've come across. His characters are real and you will feel their pain.

You really need to start with what you like. Mistery/novel/history/non-fiction then make a selectiobn from there. If it is interesting to you you will do a better job.

Good luck.
