Did you ever say to your parents. . .. " But all the other kids are doing it " or " All the other kids parents let them drink or smoke " for example . And didn't your parents say " Well, we're not like them, and we're not gonna start being like them "

Didn't they say that to you ?

Well then, why should we try to lower our stance on Iran and Syria, and why should we care if other countries are hateful of us ?? If they have lost their morals and lost their will to fight the terrorists, why should we do what the neighbors are doing ??

Somebody has to be the role model, do what's right. . . . .. . DESPITE the consequences !!

How were you raised ??

Yeah, the first part of your question I can relate to. All the other kids were doing it (wearing certain clothes, hairstyle, etc.) so why can't I? As for the second part, you presume that what we do is moral. We started a war with "terrorists" when they weren't terrorists. The 911 terrorists came from Egypt and Saudi Arabia, not Iraq, not Iran, maybe Syria. The Europeans aren't stupid and they decry what we are doing for good reason. I may not agree with them, but I certainly don't consider the U.S. a role model at this point in time. It was a great role model before Bush f*cked it up. History will remember.

I think the problem there is that they (the good guys) don't want our form of government. It takes a special breed of people like us to realize how wonderful a democracy is. I, as an American, really don't care what other countries think when we do what we know IS right in trying to help. But when those that are being helped don't want us there...something is wrong. I'm not will to sacrifice any more for that kind of a cause.

No. My parents never taught me much and really had no hard values..
They didn't care if I smoked never said a word when I started drinking or getting high.
I learned on my own what was and what was not acceptable to me through trial and error, lots of both.It is not the best way to learn.

Because to keep on picking on tiny countries like Iran and Syria doesn't make you a great role model.

My parents were too darn strict!! They put me in private schools and made me wear uniforms! They wouldn't let me "hang out" at the mall. They made me get a job when I wanted a car. Mean old people!!

I rebelled when I was 18 (beats 12). Thankfully, I never got too far out of control, and was able to salvage my existence. They made me do it myself, too! But they never stopped loving me.

Now I'm a mom. I get to hear my son tell me how strict I am!

America needs to hold others accountable for their actions. More importantly, perhaps, America needs to get our own house in order.

yes they did.
About wearing makeup in 6th grade. And then again about seeing R rated movies.
they said the exact same thing. "Well, we're not like them, and we're not gonna start being like them "

well think of the US as a human for a moment, during the begining and through WW2 we were the dutiful child that loved the spirit of america, and its government.

then in vietam through today, we are the rebelious "you can't tell me what to do" teenager, hopefully soon we will grow out of it.
