My automatic 97 Sunfire GT 2.4L has several issues.

When I start the car, if I get out and listen, I can hear the engine running inconsistently.
When idle [in drive] the car will sometimes shake from the engine running inconsistently..
When shifting from D to R, the car usually makes a pop noise [seems to be coming from transmission].
When driving, the car will occasionally make this popping noise several times while the engine seems to have a good bit of trouble..accelerating will usually stop this.

I just got an oil change recently. I checked the air filter today. I've tried various fuel additives...which possibly solved a problem I had with the car stalling out when trying to go from a stop [at a light, etc.].

Phillip, sounds like 2 different things. First, the idling problem is a vaccum leak. Probably a bad EGR valve. I usually just unplug the vaccum line going to it and plug the vaccum line with a screw. The car will immediatly run properly if this is the problem. Otherwise, I'd look at all of the vaccum lines. It takes about 10 years, but fumes from unleaded gasoline tend to dry-rot the rubber in the vaccum lines. They are probably hard and brittle. I'd start replacing them one at a time. Don't feel frustrated, I have to do the same thing to my 96 Subaru sometime soon....mine are shot too. It's common. Now, the pop...it's coming from one of the half-shafts. I would recommend replacing both. Make sure that you take a punch and mark the location of the struts and bolts so you don't have to re-align the front end. Good luck.

Chrysler has had a historic past of Transmission themes in those trucks, yet this would not sound transmission appropriate. It appears like an ignition difficulty extra beneficial than something. you will first could be particular that the vehicle has spark and gasoline, yet you will choose for the vehicle to be ineffective earlier you may verify it. the three.8L is a tremendously sturdy engine, and we don't see too many problems with them. Is the verify engine gentle on? My wager is that that is going to require an ignition coil or module.

these are VERY problemed cars, and if you are in the market for a new one, then jump. My wife had a 99, and itstarted showing signs of impending doom after just 4 years. I also just fixed my brother in laws 1997 cavelier(the identical sister car, and a99 cent oring almost took out his engine. (the waterneck is PLASTIC) they were cheaply made and have many problems
