Hmmm...I suppose it depends on your culture.
Typically, I think if you have a "tight" neighborhood where you are friendly with one another, this little group will take care of one another, as was done decades ago. I doubt that you will find this kind of situation today - at least not many.
Years ago, families knew one another and respected one another despite their differences. If a household was taken ill, they will get together and help that family, as was the case when another became ill in that group. Especially when children were in the household, everyone pitched in.
This is also true with churches. One simply notifies the local church they attend of the household illness and an organized party will be launched so that the family is cared for until one adult is well enough to take care of the household again.
So, yes, I think in certain circumstances and depending on where you live, you can expect help when both parents are ill and the children need caring for as well.

It is normal to think that way, but remember too, that during that time it should tell a person who they need to stay close to or stay away from.

No you should not expect help. You are an adult with your own family. You can ask for it but don't expect it.
