This election 89% of blacks voted dem. Which is good, more voted dem then the last eleciton. But my question is why would these 11%, or 1 out of 10 black people, vote republican? Do they really hate their own race that much?
I'm black btw just so no one gets confused.

zombiefighter1988, do you really believe that THESE DAYS republicans are the party of tolerance and they represent people of color? GIVE ME A BREAK! AHHAHA
I would NEVER vote republican! My 3 kids (18, 20, 24) all voted democrat in the last election. Because I raised them thatw ay and they know what you want.
The republican party changed when Nixon started appealing to the white racist voters, and ever since then the entire racist south has always been 100% republican. Funny how that works, huh?
You ain't foolin anybody ;)

Yes, some of them do hate their race so much. Some are high profiled like Condi Rice who is old enough to know better.
But where was she when New Orleans was underwater - in NY shopping for shoes.
She said the civil rights marches in the '60's were counter-culture. And that lil manly woman benefited from it. She is no different from the slaves than fought AGAINST their liberators.
I'm sure during slavery she will be the first to run to massah telling him that Tubman pulled a gun on Toby and now they're running off to the north.

is this stereotyping? Last time I checked-it was the Dems who were more racist. Just because Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton tells you the Republicans are trying to hold down the black population, doesnt mean it is true. Republican Party is for everyone. Many blacks have famimly values and prefer to have the govt to respect human life. Maybe the blacks want a more capitalist system instead of having Dems make them feel inferior and the the Dems have to always save the black population. Republicans see blacks as people too, not just votes. Maybe these blacks want more respect for their race, respect the Dems can not give because they treat you like needy children instead of people life we the Reps do.

Blacks just like other Americans groups in society are both rich and poor as well as liberal and conservative. Some have strong military backgrounds as well as religious views that cause them to lean more to the Republican view points than towards the Democrats. It's a strong misconception just like any stereotype to think that because we have the same skin color we think and vote a like in terms of politics. Unfortunately this stereotype has been used by both parties to court the "Black Vote" over the years, and Blacks depending on where they stand socially and economically have made there choices accordingly.

Read some history and find out what the party you vote for actually did for you.
The democrats opposed;
Freeing the slaves
ending Jim Crow
desegregation
civil rights
women's right to vote
considered Martin Luther King Jr. an enemy of the state
Condemned blacks to welfare and failing schools
created ghettos as a solution to welfare crisis
continue to treat you as second class citizens.
The democrat that holds the record for the longest filibuster in history was just reelected,he was filibustering civil rights and was a member of the KKK.His name is Robert Byrd.

The Democratic and Republican parties are so big that it's hard for them to really stand for anything anymore. There are gay Republicans in office right now. There are Democrats in office right now who support the Flag Burning Amendment. These parties are about one thing: being in & staying in power. "Voting Republican" doesn't always mean "voting conservative" or "voting for white people in power": the parties are too big to be pinned down that easily.
Because of that, I could think of dozens of reasons why a black person would vote for a Republican. Perhaps that particular Republican is moderate. Perhaps that black voter supports the War in Iraq. Perhaps the Democrat in that race was caught in a scandal. etc. etc. etc.
I'm an admitted liberal, so I'm not saying that balck people should or shouldn't vote Republican. I'm just saying that our elections are so national & yet so local that there could be lots of circumstances and contexts where a black person voting Republican makes sense.

Same reason that a white person votes republican.
Belief in the importance of self reliance. Desire to see our country be strong. If you think that Dems are more tolerant, you obviously weren't paying attention to the recent MD Senate race, where "tolerant" Dems threw Oreo cookies at a black Republican candidate.

I wasn't confused, I pretty much figured you were black. 8-)
Anyway, maybe there are blacks that vote black because they are conservatives and side more with the republican party than they do with dems.
There are black congressman that are republicans. Alan Keyes, pres. candidate for R's. Look at Condi Rice-- black, woman, R.
Even Colin Powell sides more on the conservative side. There are plenty of black leaders that could/would side on more conservative side of the world.
I think its sterotypical to expect all blacks to vote dem given advances in the black population and that people are individuals. Plenty of blacks folks voted R in the 2000 and 2004 elections.

I've often wondered why someone Black would vote Democrat.
Democrats created Jim Crow and enforced, by death if necessary or just for sport, for more than a hundred years. Democrat Senator Byrd of West Virginia is a proud "ex" member of the KKK and yet he's been re-elected for how many years? It was Democrats who threatened six-year-old Ruby with her life while shouting the N word at her just because she wanted a decent education. It was so bad that the Republican President Eisenhower had to send in troops to protect her. Remember the infamous "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever" speech? That was the Democrat governor of Alabama standing in the doorway of another school. He was threatened by the Republican President with arrest.
Let's talk about now. Philadelphia's murder rate is unbelievable and it isn't "Whitey" going into the Black neighborhoods and killing the residents. It's Blacks killing each other. What is the Democrat mayor of governor doing about it? Nothing! Why? Because they know that they're guaranteed the Black vote because Blacks vote Democrat no matter what happens.
Ray Nagin ran for cover and kept HIS family safe while New Orleans drowned but he was re-elected by the very Blacks he left to die in the city. Marian Berry of Washington, another Democrat, was caught on video tape doing crack and went to jail, but the re-elected him.
What do the Democrat politicians do for Blacks in exchange for this unwavering loyalty? Nothing, because they don't demand anything of them. Why would any Black vote for a Democrat after being used and abused and taken for granted by Democrat politicians for years?

because there are some smart blacks out there who don't buy into the liberals pandering to them with policies that don't help them in the long run. School choice would be especially helpful to blacks who are disproprotionately stuck in failing inner city schools. Social security private accounts would turn millions of poor into wealthy investors when the reach retirement age, something lacking in the black community. Blacks tend to be very religious and against gay marriage and abortion. So the answer is they want to help themselves and their fellow blacks, not stay trapped in a cycle of government sponsored poverty.
Seriously, why don't blacks get all this and vote overwhelmingly republican? it's republicans who ended slavery. It's republicans who sponsored civil rights legislation in the 60's. I frankly don't see any reason for blacks to vote democrat.

It's because not all African-Americans believe in the plantation system the Dems seem to foster. One party believes in true equality for people regardless of race. The other believes African-Americans can't quite succeed without special treatment. One party believes in personal responsibility. The other believes in group rights. One party features the administration with the greatest number of people of color in history. The other talks a good game.
Would you care to guess which is which?

I can see that you are a force for conformity. All blacks who don't vote like you are abnormal.
The Democrat Party fights to ensure diversity, but the recipients of this beneficence had better not behave like individuals and think for themselves.
