what causes a 1996 transmission (e4od) to exit overdrive at highway speeds and the speedometer either pegs out at 85 or it will go the otherway or stay at other eroneous speeds then it will bounce back to normal and overdrive resumes ....all at 55 mph or other highway speeds.... this happens frequently...this one has got me stumped any ideas on this one?
thank-you

The speed sensor in the rear end is bad. Very easy to change and not that high. One bolt and one connector at the top of the rear end housing is all it takes to change. I do recommend haveing it looked at by a dealer or a good auto tech before replacement for a 100 percent diag.

check the connections right behind the battery, if you have recently replaced it, as the Wire for the speed sensor should be there, and I have had this problem recently
