i want his gift to mean a lot to him...somthing he'll never forget
we have been going out for 2 months and i want it to be a special first christmas
hes a gymnist and likes karate

First, you have only been going out for 2 months, so, don't give him something that is *too* meaningful, he might think that is a little too clingy (such as a VERY expensive gift, a photo album full of pictures of you both, etc).

He is clearly a very active person. Why not get him something that appeals to his 'active' nature. Some examples that come to mind... look for a local Rock Climbing gym and sign you both up for a lesson, if you live in a ski area pay for a day on the slopes with equipment and lessons if needed, if you live in warmer areas see if there is a place that does horseback or mountain bike rentals. Those memories will mean more than a thing.

when you're out with him at a store or the mall, he might point out something that he likes or say "I want that"...he might be giving you hints as to what he wants...that way you can't go wrong!

Get him something of sentimental value, even if it's just a pencil.

See what he likes. Sometimes, what he collects or someting. If you're REALLY stuck, then just ask him, "What do you want for Christmas _________ (Enter name) Good luck. =)
