What do people benefit from lying? Don't they know the truth will come out eventually? Is lying a form of weakness?

Hi JayJay, People have a fear of losing someone they love. So they tell alittle white lie, specially if they were someplace else besides where they told you. What i mean if you go to a bar,or something like this, without your mate. The only weakness would be the fear of losing you mate.

Lying is a weakness, it's lazy, it's an insult to the reciever, it's a behavior of one who has not defined themselves or their character enough to know what they believe, it's insecurity and inability to stand by one's belief despite the judgement of another. It's an attempt to portray an illusion of a person who lives and acts selfishily in thier deeds, knowingly doing what they want despite the consequences or cost or hurt to other people and family but will not do the right thing , so they lie instead, since they have not a good excuse for thier actions. rather then change they say what they think people want to hear. They are interested in benefitting some how, but dont have the means as they are, to gain what it is they seek, they are phony, so they lie to look good for the moment.People don't have the balls to look another in the eye and say what ever it is that is real, it takes strength and character and maturity to tell it like it is, especially if a person is living on the edge of expectations or the truth would make another uncomfortable or result in being accountable for themselves.

People probably lie for as many reasons as they speak.

There are all sorts of benefits to lying, the biggies are probably avoidance of discomfort and material gain. There are millions of reasons to lie.

The truth doesn't always come out.

Sometimes, but rarely, a lie is the right thing.

In my opinion, lying regularly is a sign of weakness on many levels. If I identify someone as a regular liar, everything they say is suspect and I have no interest in interacting with that person. Been there, done that.

Lying is human nature... Honesty is to be cultivated.

In studies conducted over the years, it is a proven fact that 9 out of 10 people either outright lie when in a stressful situation or embellish for whatever reason to make themselves more interesting or seem more important?

I guess liars are the majority when you think about it like that?

I disagree with your take on it. I do not believe that it makes someone weak. I believe it makes someone more human. If you don't care about how anyone else feels, you have no reason to lie to either spare them their feelings or deceive them into a sense of false trust and comfort.

Personally, I can't say that I don't lie... everyone does. But I have an inborn guilty conscience and if I should ever lie for whatever reason. I am the dope who always admits it later on.

Some of us CAN'T lie!

a) People lie for love, fear, pain, comfort, joy, protection, trill of it, addiction

b) Most know but will lie anyway (see a.)

c) Well lets define weakness first... lack of strength, firmness, self-indulgent liking.. as for a particular thing.
A lie is an intentional untruth, deliberate deceit. (Basically the liar
has knowledge of what he/she is doing ).

From what i understand. A lie told for that one moment in that one incident is not a form of weakness. It could have been told for any of the reasons listed in a. But Lying.. the habit of telling a continual lie is a form of weakness because that person, has a lack of strength, firmness and is self indulgent for some reason.

I think some people can't control it, I work with a guy that pretty much lies about the everything....even the dumbest things!! He lies even when the truth is more convenient, everyone tells him he's full of it but it just doesn't sink in. He's really good at his job (customer service) but his lying keeps him from moving forward and yet he doesn't stop. Seems kinda silly but I sometimes wonder if its uncontrolable in some people!!

I think everyone lies. We lie to our children when we tell them about Santa and the tooth fairy. We lie to our friends when they say "does this make me look fat?". We lie to our spouses when we pretend to be in the mood even though we are tired but don't want to hurt them. We lie to our friends when we made a mistake and don't want to be embarrassed. Some people like to make themselves look better. Some people are chronic liars.
No one is Righteous, not even one. Consider what a great forest fire is ignited from a single spark. We are human, therefore we make mistakes. If we told the truth at all times to everyone, it would be detrimental. Sometimes lies are necessary, in many cases they are not.
But the are inevitable.

People lie for different reasons. Some lie, or tell a subset of the truth to save the feelings of others, others may lie compulsively and not be able to help themselves. It depends on the person.

If a lying person finds comfort, a sense of control, or avoids embarrassment... faulty rationalization may make it easier for them to lie than to be truthful.

Best wishes,
