The gameboy advance SP is much better. It has a backlit screen which is able to be turned off any time during gameplay, as there is a small button on it. It folds down for easy storage. But, if you were going to buy her one, I would actually suggest buying her a Nintendo DS. They are a much better deal and they are able to play all types of games, including games from the gameboy advance (SP). But of the two I would definately buy the SP version. It is much more durable and will last longer, and you can play it in the dark. But the Nintendo DS is a much better deal. I am an electronics tester and the nintendo DS was much better than the gameboy advance or the SP. It even worked better than the newer versions, the DS lite and the DS drk. It tops about $100 and you can also buy it used at E.B. Games or Gamestop. Hope that helped. Wish your sister happy birthday for me!

The DS or DS Lite is the latest handheld system from Nintendo. Both are way better than the PSP. They can use Advance cartriges as well as their own. The lower screen is a touch screen, so it comes with a stylus. It also has a built in microphone, and wireless capabilities.
The SP is the newer version of the GameBoy Advance. It's a good unit, I own one, but it's now outdated. You can still find plenty of games for it, and it is smaller than the DS, so it might appeal to you. For that matter, there's the Micro--an even smaller version of the GBA. Go to a game store, and poke around, or talk to an employee.

SP is a mixture between a gameboy advance and original gameboy color w/one screen. DS has two screens and you use the control pads and the pointy stick thingy that comes w/it. (sorry i don't remember what it's called.)
