You are not a soppy old git. you are absolutely correct! Christmas is about tolerance, peace, and good will.
These commercial prats that are banning Christmas are so loathesome to me, I have no words to express what I really think.
the Anglican-Christian tradition is under attack all the time. Those establishments that ban Christmas are pure evil. As someone else said in another response, certain countries, such as the UK and colonies, as well as the USA are founded on Anglican traditions and beliefs. So those who come from other cultures need to learn to appreciate our's!
If not let them go back to the place from whence they came!
I might add, I like diversity, but not at the cost of our own VERY important traditions.

That's pathetic. I'm a non-Christian and it has never offended me if a privately owned company or store put up a Christmas tree, decorations or anything else! I love the spirit of Christmas in general, how people get together and enjoy each-other, help the less fortunate, and open those presents! I would have a problem, however, if the government made it mandatory to celebrate Christmas or something, but that's not the case. I think everyone needs to chill the f*ck out, and enjoy this part of the year with family and friends. It's not like the people at work are trying to convert you to become a Christian by buying you that nice, new, and sleek I-Pod for Christmas.....

I, too share your sadness, but we are now in a world that is similar to North America, where everyone is easily offended and someone is always to blame for anything that happens.
When I was a child, I played on apparatus over tarmac playgrounds, fell out of trees, sang politically incorrect rhymes (with other children from all parts of the world), got my ear clipped for being rude by a total stranger and took the occasional risk. My Mum never dreamed of suing anyone.
Sadly today, avoiding litigation is a full time professional activity that all coporate bodies, local authorities, sports facilities providers and others have to employ somebody to do.

Interesting -
I am Christian and love to see decorations and celebrations of all kinds.
However, there is a person I work with who is very dismayed and offended if anyone openly celebrates in front of her. A few years ago, I put up Jewish related decorations for her and she was thrilled. (I then made a point of showing her the irony).
Perhaps a sharing of activities is better than a dismantling of all of them...

One can only laugh at the stupid gullibility of Britain.
I thought the saying was 'when in Rome do as the Romans do'
Britain has lost it's credibility in the world!

Of course you are 100% correct. Anyone with any common sense would agree with you, but unfortunately 'common' sense isn't as 'common' as it used to be.
And strangely, the phrase 'political correctness' has never been more wrong!!!!

I don't bother with Christmas much ... but you are right. Tolerance and goodwill are what it's about.
