Something I used to do every year, that I learned from my grandparents and parents is paint eggs. First you use a pin to make a small hole on each end of the egg then comes the hard part...you have to blow on one end and have the eggs insides come out the other end. It may take some time but it works. If you find it impossible just make the hole on the bottom a bit bigger. Then you paint the eggs, and you can also use little pictures or glitter or anything you like to decorate them. Once they dry you can use some spray gloss and coat them so that they get a shiny look and the paint is protected a bit. Then get a piece of string, tie it in a loop and use a needle to poke the knot through the top hole. Once you have done that use a bit of elmer's glue (typical white glue that kids use in school) on the top hole so that the knot will stay in. Wala! you have some nice decorations for your christmas tree that are free and look great!

It's very "Martha" but if you have evergreen trees, wire together bunches of it for garland. It smells fantastic and looks good. Pinecones can have their tips painted white to look like snow and be used as ornaments.
Buy a can of gold spray paint ($1 at Wal-Mart) and paint a bunch of natural materials. Even if they aren't pine, they'll look good bunched up as arrangements or strung as garland. One year I went crazy with a can of gold and a can of silver spray paint.
Try making spirals instead of paperchains. They can be made out of any paper (or fairly thick wrapping paper). Just cut out a large circle and then cut a deep spiral into it. Hang it from the very center and it will fall beautifully.
Bunch up a lot of spare candles in a large dish for a centerpiece.
Make paper snowflakes. It takes time but after a while you can elaborate ones. I make mine and then iron them between fabric to remove the creases and then hang them everywhere.
Have fun!

Make cinnamon ornaments. Use lots of Cinnamon and just enough applesauce to make a stiff dough. Press out and cut with cookie cutters. Poke a small hole for a piece of ribbon to hang them. Air dry for several days, turning them every day. (You can dry them in a barely warm oven, but have to be very careful or they will crack.)
After they dry, you can decorate with candies, or paint. I have used glitter pens made for painting on fabric. They smell wonderful, and keep that nice smell for years! They are fragile, though. I break a couple every year and have to remake them periodically.

Wreaths-you can buy a fake wreath at Micheals/AC Moore/Franks and decorate it with a hot glue gun with ribbons,
inexpensive christmas ornaments, or fake silk flowers.
Center pieces are cool-take cranberries and fill a vase w/ water
place white or red flowers in vase.
Make your own christmas ornaments with straight pins, beads, ribbons, and stryfoam balls or wreaths.
Make your own christmas cards with cardstock, glue, construction paper-cut out designs on the colored construction paper and glue trees, snowflakes,etc-place in envelopes.
Make bath salts-epsom salt, fragrance and a small amount of food coloring-put in glass jars and give as presents.
Make your own garland-popcorn, cranberries, pinecones, etc
Use butcher paper/or bulletin board paper and make your christmas wrap-use stamp pads or draw designs on paper.

Needle and thread popcorn together, go to the dollar store and buy a $1.00 can of gold and silver spray paint when your finished.
You can make strings of icicles or wrap it around your tree. Use your imagination...maybe different colors...whatever.
Just use your imagination................................
