I have heard of these courses very often and would love to do such a thing but it seems the only places its open to are in Canada, australia and newzeeland, but im in The UK (ireland) Is there anything like this available to us?

I am attending the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and they do have a program, at least at the Masters Level: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/english/postgraduate/mlitt/linguistics.php. I advise you to check out the site and go from there. Maybe universities just label the degree under a different title?
If undergrad degrees aren't available, take a first degree in English, concentrating on Linguistics in addition to taking some foreign languages. This will give you a good base. It may only be offered as Postgrad.

Well I'm in Ireland and have done the T.E.F.L diploma few years ago here in Ireland. When I finish my course which was eleven months I got a placement in Madrid. But I believe that you can do the T.E.F.L on-line. But be warned make sure that what ever you study that the cert/dip is recognized. To many places offering these so-called weekend course are pure rip off.
