I know it's not the cost that matters......but I am wondering exactly how much people are spending these days on gifts in total for their kids, family members, etc. I think we have spent around $300, but we started back in August. We are almost done.

Depends on a lot of factors: disposible income, number of people on your list, handmaking/baking some gifts...

I'm in college so I don't have a ton of cash to spend. I usually make jewelry for my close friends, so it's just a little time and materials cost there ($30 total). Cards and candy canes for dorm and class mates ($15 total). Really only have to buy gifts for my parents, sister, best friend... and boyfriend this year :) With only 5 people to buy for, it's easier to spend a little more on each person, try to get them "quality over quantity". Maybe $400 to $500 total for the season for me.

I spend $50 on my mom and everyone else is getting presents that range from $5-$30. I started shopping for Christmas presents back in July. I'm broke this year and so is my mom and most of my friends. I think I'll be spend a little over $200 this year.

It varies, between $500 and $700 dollars which according to the current rate of exchange is about the same you are spending. And I think that is about the national average which surprised me. And yes I started buying back in the summer..
