I am a 29 year old woman who is currently waiting for medical results about possibly having breast cancer. I am a very independent woman who lives alone, but I feel the need to share this information with someone because it is a very difficult time in my life. The one person who I would love to tell is my mother, but she has diabetes and gets sick easily when she stresses. My mother lost her mother when she was 18, lost her nephew to cancer 8 years later and her sister to breast cancer 2 years after that. I don't know if I want to stress my mom over my possible condition if it may make her ill; and most especially because she has been through so much. Should I tell my mom, or should I keep this soon-to-be found information private?

Sinned, your answer was terrible. IF this woman has breast cancer, it does not mean she is going to die! With a positive outlook in life , a strong will to survive and early detection means she can be cured. There are several treatments out there. Sounds like you have already had a lumpectomy. If you have to lose a breast it it no big deal. In fact with such a high instance of breast and other cancers within the family it might not be a bad idea to have them removed anyway. I would wait until I know for sure, check out the options, see if there is metastasis etc. then go from there. By all means you do not want to go through this alone and maybe if you share with your mother from beginning of treatment to end of treatment she may not be so stressed! Would like to know your results and if you need to talk email me @ JooJoo_40@yahoo. I pray for it to be negative.

Tell a trusted friend, that way if anything happens to you, then that friend can let everyone know. I am only saying this because, when you have something like cancer, you cant spend alot of time focusing on it and feeling sorry for yourself, so it doesnt help when you have a bunch of people constantly reminding you that you are ill. You can be consumed with your illness and not recover. I do not see how telling your sick mother will help, because I am sure she has high blood pressure along with her diabetes and she would be totally sick.

That is a hard one. As a mother I would want to know regardless of my condition. I am a cancer survivor and the network of people around me made dealing with the stress a lot easier. You really need to be able to talk to someone. She can support you if you indeed do have cancer and celebrate with you if you do not

Your mom is going to be ok. She has pre-cervical maximum cancers, meaning she has cells that ought to grow to be cancerous if no longer dealt with. Your mom is being dealt with very early and the effect of that therapy could be very stable. in case you're nervous approximately your mom, take a seat down and communicate along with her and enable her comprehend the way you're feeling. consistent with danger she would manage to describe all of it to you lower back and answer any questions you have gotten.

You should always remember to look after yourself it may sound harsh but your mother is leading her own life, she will be more stressed if you never relate to her about any worries you may have.If you feel you need you need to speak to someone do not hesitate to contact cancerbackup, through personal experience I have realised it is the wrong thing to do bottling things up and not letting your feelings known.

If your mom found out from someone else that something was wrong with you, wouldn't that be more stressful to her? Being open with her now may save problems with stress later. For most people finding out someone they love is sick is stressful enough. It would be for anyone. But to find out that person is trying to keep it from them (even with good intentions) hurts worse. Most parents want to be there for their family. If she isn't told she may be upset that she wasn't there for you. She may feel guilty you were to worried about her to tell her. That to me would be harder to except than being open to begin with. If she had cancer wouldn't you want to know so you can be there for her?

that's a tough call. i would say if you have any close friends or siblings share the possiblility with one of them and talk to them about your fears etc. once you find out the results if they are negative then she never has to know and never has to stress about something that didn't happen. if the results come back as positive then you have to tell her it wouldn't be fair not to. now if you do not have any siblings or close friends to talk to in the meantime then your mother would want you to turn to her so she can be there for you. she would be hurt and upset that she couldn't be there for you otherwise.

I would say if the stress would cause her to become very ill then as hard as it is wait until you know for sure. If it's nothing, and I hope it is nothing, then you would have made her ill for no reason.
