I would say live without the roommate. Even having a friend move in can cause problems. Maybe you need to look for a less expensive place.

Request an interview and get some references off them. Better to see what other people have experienced staying with this person than the blind leading the blind. Could be a real pig or something - or even have some weird habits that you absolutely detest!!

Very difficult to do without face to face meetings and getting to know the person. You want to make sure they are responsible, and tolerant. No religious freaks or mental health cases, nymphomaniacs, druggies or total slobs. You might want to run a credit check, as that will give you some idea of how they conduct their business.

I will be honest , under the state of affairs , there is no one trustworthy! Imagine , you are better off to ask of someone you know and trust for recomendations. In todays world no one is who they say they are. Think about it , maybe is better for you to rent a room in a family house , where there are mom,dad and a kid or two , it will be more secure, then install a camera at your door or in room. Good luck. Hugs.

I'm goin through a rough time with a friend of mine who rents a room from me. It's putting a serious strain on our relationship. I would not recommend renting a room to a friend. To answer your question, I'd call their references. Ask for four or five of them so you can get a good idea of the type of person they are.

Honestly? Go it alone. Roomates are like bad marriages all too often.
