I'm pregnant with my second child and am incredibly paranoid that I'll end up having the child at home with no help. My first baby popped out within 3hours of my waters breaking, and I was only in labour for 2.5hours.

They say that each labor is shorter than the last. I want to know what other mothers have experienced and what the difference was between each labor.

My own mother was in labor for 6 then 4 then 2 hours respectively for her three children. If this is anything to go by, then is it possible I will only have an hour of labor for this child?

You will likely have your baby at home, in fact, I would plan on it. It is by far safer to have a planned unassisted homebirth than an unplanned emergency birth on the side of the road.

Many women, including myself, plan to have unattended deliveries, and in normal, uncomplicated deliveries there is evidence that this is as safe or safer than having a midwife, which is as safe or safer than going to the hospital.

I guess you were lucky not to be in labor for a long time. But is not really true... the more kids the less time in labor. I my self have 4 kids. 1st 18 hours, 2nd 16 hours, 3rd 24 hours and my 4th was more like 12-14 hours. The pushingout part was always quick. But it was the labor that took forever. So it seems. But if you are afraid something might happen. Maybe have a friend or love one around, especially when you are closer to the due date just in case. Congratulations n good luck

I don't know if water breaking is necessarily an indication of when your child will be born, but I have heard that with pregnancies after the first, labor goes faster.

I am 32 weeks with my second. With my first, my water hadn't broken yet and I went in. I was dialated to 2 and they sent me home, but let me tell ya a few hours later and still no broken water, I went back in and begged them not to send me home...I was in THAT much pain. Glad I did...within like 10 minutes of being there, my water did break.

This time, when I go in, I am going to opt to stay there...even if it means I am walking the halls to help dialation. They won't MAKE you go home once you are there if they know you are in labor (based on contractions, etc on the monitor). You just never know, really, and I KNOW I am not going to deal with severe pain and broken water at home!! NO WAY!!! LOL!

My first was the same as your first. With my second, my water broke at 2am, contractions started at 6:30am and she was born at 7:42am. Good luck!
