My mom just called and she said she is booking a trip to Italy for next year during spring break. However, since I'm a first year student at college (and my college is really competitive), I don't know if there is going to be a lot of tests or projects due the week after spring break. Should I go with her? The trip will take the week. Did you have a lot of homeworks during spring break? Do you think that I will mess up my grades if I go?

I would go if I were you. I had the same issue as you this year- my family was going out of the country for the first time but during thanksgiving break (plus the few days before). I was pretty worried about missing stuff, but it turns out that professors generally expect people to be leaving, and didn't assign tests or anything that week. I didn't miss a thing! I would expect spring break to be the same way. Also, you know about this trip ahead of time, so talk to your professors before you leave. Find out what you'll miss, and if you'll need to turn anything in beforehand. If there are any tests, they should let you take them ahead of time as long as you ask them. Don't miss out on such a cool trip! I'm so jealous of you! Hehe ;)
Have an awesome time!

I say go and enjoy Italy. The great part about knowing about the trip in advance is that you'll be able to manage your time well. You'll get a syllabus at the beginning of each class which will outline your assignments, projects and due dates. You'll have plenty of time to plan ahead. You could even explain your plans to your professors and see if you could hand in any projects before spring break. They'll be impressed with your foresight and might even cut you a break! In addition, if your classes cover Italian language, history, art, or cuisine, you might be able to get extra credit for writing a short essay about what you learned on your trip.

Grades are just grades. It's the experiences of life that make us smart.

Enjoy!

Do you travel to Italy often?
If not, GO!
So what if your grades take a bit of a slide...talk with the dean of your school and explain the situation.

There is nothing like experiencing people of other cultures in their native country.
It can only make you a more complete human being!

Ciao, baby!
