I am starting my schedule for Spring 2007 and I want to take 19 hours but all my friends are telling me that it's suicide. The classes that I'm taking are pre-requisite courses.

Anatomy and Physiology and Lab
Freshman English II
Speech
Psychology
American History
College Algebra

Should I get an override to take 19 hours or just take a class out? Need some advise please...thank you.

You should take the Algebra at a community college (it's cheaper and usually better instructors). But, other than that, I would do it. How many hours/weeks do you expect to work? that would be an important factor to consider also.

You mean 19 units? That is a boatload of classes. I would only approve if you have no job, and are highly motivated. I am taking 16 next semester, and only because I am highly motivated and know I can do it. Why start out so big? Why not try the standard 12 or so and see how that works for you and take it from there. It's better to load up on upper division classes later as they are generally more interesting to you since they involve your major. The risks greatly outweigh the rewards.

Holy gods - Algebra, Psych, AND Anatomy&Physiology? Are you NUTS?

Any one of those will have enough homework and studying to put a lot of pressure on you. All three in the same semester - particularly the first semester when you're trying to settle into the college routine - is like climbing an oak tree on hill in a thunderstorm. You're just ASKING to get struck by lightning.

Drop at least the A&P. That's really two classes right there, and pretty intense ones at that.

Do yourself a favor and drop a class. Anything above 18 credit hours is insane. With the courses you've listed, it's probable that you will be doing A LOT of reading. A good rule of thumb for studying for a class is two hours outside of class for every hour in class. If you think you can handle it, by all means do it. You won't have a social life whatsoever though which is a part of the college experience. Networking and developing friendships that will last you a lifetime are just as much a part of college as earning a degree. It's important to balance the two.

19 hours is a lot for anyone! I would drop a class. I always carry at least enough to allow me to drop one class in case I have trouble with it. That way I never drop below full time student. Plus, if your also going to be working, I wouldn't take 19 hrs. I took 21 hours one semester and worked 40-60+ hours a week... It was hell! I will never do it again!

You shouldn't take more than 15 your first semester. You need time to adjust. After the spring semester if you do well then you should be okay. Nineteen is really a lot though. I would avoid that if you could. I've taken 17 and even that can be overbearing at times.

You are really loading your schedule. The only benefit, if you are up to the task, is that you will accumulate credits a bit faster and graduate possibly sooner. You may also burn out under the load. The best advice for a freshman is to take it easy on the schedule until you have adapted to the school. You can always overload later.

19 credit hours for anyone is rough. I would drop speech and do the other classes. If you want to finish early you can always take summer/winter break classes, or take 18 credits when you are a junior.

I feel for you . . . try taking 21 credits in one semester just so you could graduate on time . . . ugh . . .

You should always see how things are going before you drop out.. for most people.. it might just be suicide.. to you it might just be a challenge that can be over come with studying and hard work.. allow yourself time to relax.. cause you dont wanna crash.. especially at the end.. its always good to give yourself ample time to see if its the right thing to do... and when you do get good grades.. pat yourself on the back.. and your friend will too

You should have an advisor on campus who will better be able to guide you based upon your past accomplishments in your education, SAT scores, etc.

Wish you well.
