There is such a lack of harmony and balance in Western society that it is noticable in an ugly and harmful way.

All cultures are different, but it is dangerous to generalise as we are all individuals. :-)

Umm yeah. Been to Calcutta lately? Bangladesh? Really harmonious. And what about Maoist China? 50 million dead? Now that's what I call Nirvana. Oh, lets not forget that model of Buddhist harmony KOREA. But while we're at it how about that lovely buddhist utopia Sri Lanka? They do a special meditation out there every night called "Dodge the mortar rounds."
By the way, I practice meditation myself but the idea that the east is harmonious is ridiculous. This whole world has problems unfortunately. Also in the east its a lot easier to say everything is cool if you are a MAN. A womans life in much of the Asian east amounts to little more than slavery.

Perhaps, there is no more concrete barrier between East and West. It is a clear proof here on the Internet. There is still a 6000 year gap among mankind, some are soaring on the summit of advanced thinking, others are still indulging in the darkness of prejudices. However, those who soar high may also be high in superiority complex and others are filled with inferior complex.
Fortunately, with new apocalyptic discoveries and events, people are awakening to face the global problems, and our instinctive sense of survival and human wisdom will force us to cooperate for our collective life and progress.
Wishing that people with power, with knowledge, with wealth... will humbly and enthusiastically go ahead in drawing and carrying out a good plan for the advanced existence of our beautiful and unique planet.

That is BS. We in the west pray, which is more in harmony and balance with our communion with our creator rather that vacuous meditation.
