Can anyone explain why sunlight is only red at night and not in the daytime and to keep this topic in Zoology, why does it affect the mating habits of the lesser spotted dog beetle, so much so that they all could'nt give a Toss whether or not they do it or not...

If I remember correctly, it's because when the sunlight is coming at an angle rather than straight down, the light has to pass through more of the atmosphere, and only the longer wavelengths make it through.
