a pre-test is the test you take before you learn the material. it's to see where you're at (level wise) and what you know already. a post-test is the test after you learn the material. it's to see how much you've improved and what you've learned.

A pre-test is a test that's taken, often at the beginning of a chapter, to see how much you already know about the chapter's contents. A post-test is a test taken at the end of the chapter, to see how much you've learned by studying the chapter.

well, there is actually a pre-test, but there is no post test, but there can be a post test rest.

by the way, put it this way: it is warming up before an exercise, and cooling down after it (and sleeping inbetween!)
