Is it all the people you compliment or just a certain few? Did they actually deserve your praise or were you just being kind?
I have found that there are a lot of non-appreciative people in this world and most of it is from how they were raised as a child. If they weren't taught to appreciate the kindness of others, they will certainly grow up as an adult who does not show kindness or appreciation.
Most of the time, if someone ends up being an asshole, this is because that's what they truly were in the beginning; just that I gave him/her the benefit of the doubt.
