Try this one by Delonghi. It's energy efficient, and turns off automatically if knocked over. It works very well when heating an entire room.

Search under Radiant Panel Heaters. Unlike the others they are quiet, no drafts and run at a low temperature so they're safe. And the heat they deliver is much like sunlight. Very cozy, and efficient too.

This is literally the "cold" reality: People are always told (by fire departments) not to use space heaters. They're just not considered safe.
Is there any way you could sleep somewhere else in the house on the coldest nights?

Use a ceramic heater, it's energy efficient and works great, I have one an i like it alot, it's made by honewell, you can get it at wal-mart or kmart, or target... whatever you have near...
