In many instances - for example, a brand that says on the bottle "compare to.." and mentions the name of one of the fancy better known brands, you can usually feel confident that the cheaper one is comparable. But the big problem with vitamins and dietary supplements is that there are lot of makers out there who sail pretty close to the wind - meaning they are on the fine edge the law. The ingredients listed on the bottle might be all in there, but sometimes inferior in quality, or in a quantity too small to do you a lick o'good. The FDA has no authority to order vitamin and dietary supplement manufactures to conform to any standards, so they can't enforce regulations as to the quality or the effective amount in that pill or capsule. Having said that, there are a LOT of extremely reputable manufactures out there.
It's a huge subject and I wish I could tell you a lot more, but I recommend you invest a few bucks in an up to date copy of Earl Mindell's excellent and very informative book "The Vitamin Bible" It will explain a lot about what you need to look for on the bottle, to make the determination whether you are getting your right value for money.

One thing that is very important in vitamins is the casing they come in. Often, with very inexpensive vitamins, the casing is so thick and hard, it does not dissolve when you take them.
The best vitamins, and they tend to be expensive, are 'whole food' capsules. They are dissolved and absorbed in a time-released way, and every part of them can be digested. You can take them on an empty stomach.
Having said that, I do not like to recommend a particular brand, because each of us is different. Speak to knowledgeable sales people, and try small sizes of different vitamins. You really can feel the difference when one works for you.
Good Health!

You need to get a good mulitivitamin that is well absorbed into your system. If it does not absorb well you will not get much benefit from the vitamin. Price is not the thing to worry about here it is how well they are absorbed by your body.

Usually not, read the label and you will see they have the same ingredients. Sometimes you end up paying more for the brand name than you really need to.

Vitamins are manufactured by the drug companies. Stay away from vitamins. Get it from food.
They are a waste! They are bad for you. Chemicals

Quality and the way they process could be the difference. The big companies also have better standards, liability insurance and marketing.
