Apparently you do. I thought it was the same for all states... you take a written test, what they call the traffic laws and road signs test, and then once you pass that you go on to the behind-the-wheel driving test. For more information contact your local DMV.

Yes you take a written test to get your learners permit, then when your 16 you can take the driving test for the license
