So what does semi-formal mean to y'all? Going to a Christmas party this weekend and I'm assuming I'll be ok in a cute dressy top and jeans with cute shoes....is that too casual?

well, depends on how the shoes look. If it's a dressy top and jeans and they go well together, with maybe some boots with the jeans tucked into them and they're all matching, I say you have a pretty semi-formal outfit!

I would say you're pushing it with jeans...you might be able to pull it off if you are wearing a darker trouser style jean and a VERY dressy top, nice shoes.

Your best bet is a dress...something a little on the plain side - no sequins or glitter. Or a skirt/dress slacks with a dressy top.

Check out Banana Republic's website. Even if you're not wearing their clothes they put together some good looks to guide you...

Semi-Formal is not real dressy, don't wear something that you would wear to prom, but you still need to look nice and not causal. I think jeans would be too casual, you should go with a dress, skirt and top, or dress pants. Your outfit sounds good but switch it to black pants or something else.

Formal wear is what you would wear to a prom or a bridesmaid's dress. Semi-Formal to me means to keep it dressy, but not extravigant. Nice jeans, dressy shirt and heels sounds fine.

Semi-formal is not to dressy but not to casual. It depends on yor jeans but the everything else seems good.

It might be. To me, semi-formal means like Sunday best but a little more dressy. Like wearing an elegant cocktail dress with little or no jewelry. You know what I mean?

we just had a semi formal dance at school. It's like a nice dress but not as long as let's say, a prom dress. I wouldn't think jeans would be alright.

Semi-formal to me means absolutely no jeans/khaki pants or sneakers. Nice, clean, goin' - to - church clothes. Skirt or dress pants for ladies, suit and tie for gents.

I think that's fine. But it depends on your jeans, you shouldn't wear ones with holes, writing, strange coloring or anything like that. You could wear a skirt to be on the safe side. Unless it's too cold.
