What do you think it means? If they mean... "get better results"... Do you get them by being nice, or by being mean?

Let's put it this way: you get only one chance to use it. All the honey in the world won't help you if the first thing you use is vinegar.

I think it's true. It means if you have something to accomplish, you will get better results by a gentle or well founded plan than by bulldozing your way through.

Sometimes too nice doesn't work. But mean doesn't work in the end either. You might get your way but people will resent you and not play as nicely with you.

Somewhere in the middle is the way to go.

Sure it's true ~ as long as 'they' don't know what you're attempting! Or if you're at least somewhat sincere. . . Nobody likes to think they're being tricked. So, be nice and get what you want, be mean, and forget it! You may see results, but the ultimate outcome won't be a good one.

I think it all depends on the person and the situation ,sometimes you have to get in a person behind to make your point or else they will not see the urgency in the situation. Other times a person may be in a very foul mood and then when you pour on the honey you may change that persons perspective.

It means being nice--but I don't like flys so I am not sure why I would want to catch any...

I know what the saying means, its an analogy, the honey is you being sweet and the flies are people, you can get what you want, and get more people to like you if you're sweet. but to me, its like, since when do flies like honey?

"You can catch more flies with honey than with vineger." It means that by being nice, you have more friends than by being mean. (Generally.) Basically, treat others with kindness, and you'll receive it in return.

True. Better you try both in different rooms. Vinegar may perhaps behave as a repellent because of the acidic content.
