I'm 100% sure that I have social anxiety, and I've been fighting it for the past three years, to no success. I'm considering going on medication, but I'd like to hear some good advice to talk me out of it first. :)

Actually, it probably had started six years ago, now that I think about it. In sixth grade, I my family moved and I got to be really quiet. It only started to be a (big) problem three years ago, however.

You are probably better off slowly introducing yourself into social situations a little at a time, don't overdue it, the more you accomplish the more confidence you will have when dealing with this. God Bless

You've only been fighting it for three years? This is indeed interesting, and leads me to believe there must be a social situational cause for it. Were you bullied, something disastrous happened? If nothign happened three years ago, then you must have had it for longer, in the which case medication woudl be a good idea. But if you just acquired it based on an adverse social situation, this can be unlearned and you shouldn't have to put yrouself through the hell that is trying out anti-depressant drugs ( which is what they give you for social anxiety).
I used to have this anxiety, but i did get over it, and actually what got me over it was, finally growing up, getting out of high school, going to college, realizing that teenager world is a fictious place. If people are abusing you at your school, know that you're better than that and you are Not to be afriad of them.

Medication isn't advisable cause they usually reregulate the hormones in your body that cause the problem. They usually have many drawbacks such as drowsiness, sexual dysfunction and so on. I suggest going for counselling 1st. There are already very good treatment programs like Joseph Wolpe's Systematic Densensitization and Aaron Beck's REBT.(Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy). Both those names are very famous psychologists who founded these techniques. The prognosis for your phobia is good if it's well treated so you don't have to worry much.
Good luck.

Actual this is normal until one understands their constitutional position. We are not these bodies, minds, senses, we are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul. We have to realize who we are and our actual purpose to be completely happy. The quickest and easiest way to realize your true self and come to real happiness is to chant the Maha Mantra (the Great Mantra for deliverance from suffering and illusion) Go to harekrishna. for details. This world is called Maya or illusion and is temporary and full of misery. If one takes up this process of chanting they can become fully realized in who they are and completely happy. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. See the movie on DVD the Trueman Show. It will give you some idea of what I mean.
