I formerly worked in an office predominantly managed and staffed by women. One 20'ish woman was openly soliciting opinions regarding qualities she should look for in a "sperm donor" (her words) for her planned single pregnancy. When asked I suggested she wait until she was married. My suggestion ended in a suggestion that I needed sensitivity training.
We have no problem telling women not to drink alcohol, use drugs while pregnant because we know that on average the children benefit from the mother's avoiding these things. We have no problem telling kids to pursue education, even though we all know Bill Gates was a high school drop out. On average education = better life.
Why do we have a problem confronting the fact that children raised in married households are on average happier, healthier and less likely to commit crimes ?

Ms Scarlett - congratulations on beating the odds. Anecdotally there are many success stories, unfortunately, the vast majority of kids raised by single parents have a much worse time in life than children raised in a married household. In 2004 90 % of the children in Ivy league schools came from intact, married households. The child starts socializing from day one and his or her opinion towards the oppositie sex and marriage are primarily formed by the household they are raised in. If you don't like the men you see today blame the enviroment that taught them their values. The same enviroment that you are defending.
