I'm a 15-year-old boy from Gibraltar - and i definately do not want Gibraltar to be Spanish. It's more than an animosity between spain and gib. To get into Gib from spain you need to spend at least one hour in your car just because they feel like it. in 1967 they closed for border for quite a number of years, In 1981 it was announced that The Prince and Princess of Wales would fly to Gibraltar to board the Britannia as part of their honeymoon. In response, the Spanish King, Juan Carlos I refused to attend their wedding in London, in the 1960s they would tell the spanish through their radio that we lived in caves... i can carry on. My final answer is no, we are british and british we shall stay.

Its up the people of Gibraltar. They held a referendum some years ago and voted in favour of staying British - that is, staying British Citizens and not Spanish Citizens. Gibraltar is not a British possession.
Ask the people of Gibraltar - do you want to become Spanish Citizens? The answer will be NO. It really has very little to do with the people or government of UK its their free choice. Don't believe me, go and ask them.
NOTE FOR - Glenn S. In addition to the burials you mentioned, there also lots of British seamen from the Battle of Trafalgar buried there too. Sacred to their memory, etc.

No. It was ceded to us, and it is a very important base for us and NATO. The people want to remain British and you yanks who are sticking your big noses in our business should give back the bases that you have taken. Guantanamo, for one and Diego Garcia which is ours, and you have evicted the native people (British)so that you can use it as a base. So NO we should not, and will not give up Gibraltar. We are already apologising for things that none of us had any influence over and the US forced us into dismantling the Empire before the people were ready. Look at the trouble that has caused in places like Zimbabwe.

Why? When we have fought long and hard to keep it? There are probably 1000 graves and memorials to people who fought to save that piece of rock. When it was strategically important it saved this small island of ours (and it's significance during WW2 should not be overlooked). It's an important piece of OUR history, the people there WANT to be part of the UK, the Spanish would punish Gibraltar for it's independance. Terriotorall boundaries aside, when Spain returns Algiers then we may as a country consider it. Till then I'd die to keep Gibraltar (and i've only been there 4 times). If patroitism means this then I'd sooner they were on our side than the other. And the same carries for Malta. Both these peoples suffered for our benefit and we owe them an undfineable gratitude. Succumb to the onslaught, capitulate, and come to the UK. Sorryy!!

NO !! Britain captured Gibraltar in 1704. Spain ceded sovereignty in 1713, but has persistently sought its return.
The Rock's nearly 30,000 residents favour remaining British, and in a 2002 referendum, they voted against the idea of shared sovereignty. Thats a good enough reason!!

Probably, in a perfect world, Gibraltar would be part of Spain. However, the people living there should have the right of self-determination and while they want to remain British the status quo should remain.
Ditto Falklands / Argentina; Ulster / Ireland.
EDIT: Was the thumbs down because you oppose the right of self -determination, or because you think these territories should remain British irrespective of the wishes of the population? I don't see that I've said anything to disagree with!

It is a Spanish soil, loaded with British settlers, of course they want it to stay British. On the other hand why do not you ask Spain to return Sabta and Malila and the canary Islands to Morocco they are also Moroccan soil!

Most people in Gibraltar want to remain as part of the UK, who can argue with that.

The UK government has a responsibility for the inhabitants
living there and if the majority wants to be Spanish why not.
Put it to a vote.
