Lake Louise - http://www.skilouise.com/
Sunshine Village (near Banff) - http://www.skibanff.com/

Both are great. My favourite is Lake Louise.

For hotels, the best for the money is Mount Royal Hotel

It's relatively cheap compared to most hotels in Banff and it's located right on Banff's busiest intersection. So you can walk to anywhere you want from the hotel.

The hotel also offers regular shuttle service to both Sunshine and Lake Louise throughout the day.

There are a few hotels near the actual Lake Louise ski area - the Chateau Lake Louise, the Post Hotel and the Lake Louise Inn. There may be a couple of others - I know there is hostel accommodation nearby. The Inn is best value, and has a range of rooms from apartments to normal hotel rooms. I stayed in a loft apartment there with my then wife and still daughter. It was excellent.

The advantage of staying near the resort is a short (5 min) bus ride to the lifts instead of 40 min from Banff. The disadvantage is less choice of resort - I don't think there is a shuttle to Sunshine from Lake Louise, and virtually no night life. There is a larger range of accommodation in Banff.

Shoe s is wrong. There is quite a large ski resort at Lake Louise (or I was having a major hallucination when I was there.)

http://www.wikiski.com has a lot of information about ski resorts, with more being added all the time.

Banff is more of a lively place, very touristy and only 10-30 minutes away from good powder. If your looking to hang out and check out a few hills i would recommend Banff. If you intend only to ski or board hardcore for a few days you may want to check into Lake Louise, its the better hill in the area. If your looking for a ritzy place, take a look at the "Fairmont Hotel Chain" theres one in Banff and Lake Louise. If your looking for a cheapy, the YMCA has a hostel in Banff that is more of a hotel than hostel. Theres everything inbetween as well. Make sure to book as in peak season things fill up fast.

Blue Mountain Lodge Bed and Breakfast is a nice place to stay, no hot tub though, but still really good.

I would say Lake Louise.

But in truth, I would recommend Jasper, Whistler, or Fernie above them both.
