What you heard for the most part is right. The Philippines is a beautiful place. Cost really depends on what you want to do and how long you are staying. You can find decent accomodation in Manila for $US 25 anywhere up to $US 150 for a room at the Pan Pacific. I rent an apartment with a view right over Manila Bay for about $1,000 / month - but that is for a one-year lease.
There are bars here where a beer costs $0.75, but it's more like $1.25 in most. You can get a decent meal for 3 or 4 dollars, and an excelent one for $12. Some bars with live music are free entrance, others have a cover charge of $2 or $3, and have good music. Manlia is a party town, something for everyone.
Transportation is reasonable. You can taka a taxi all the way across manila for about $3, public transport is even more reasonable. Domestic flights and ferries are also very cheap. The provinces are very beautiful.
I can't really compare clothes, but I think prices are definately not higher than anywhere else, more likely lower.

I can assure you, you will LOVE or at least like the Philippines. Stuff there are really cheap! There're lots of computer places, and u just pay about a dollar per hour. but I believe u need to convert your Pesos to Filipino Pesos. The culture is pretty the same with Mexico.
I used to live there since I was born tilll I was 11 years old. today, I am 13 years old, but I still want to return to the Philippines.
You'll love the resorts there. The Philippines has some of the best beaches, I believe. The people there are pretty nice, too. You rarely see people fighting unless they're drunk. The clothes there are pretty cheap. I got a white T shirt there for less than a dollar in Greenhills, Manila. There're even people in the afternoon who walk around with these buckets of TAHO. Taho is soy beans with a certain sweet sauce. It only costs less than 25 cents.
There're lots more great things there in the Philippines. Check out http://www.wowphilippines.com for more info. By the way, there's a place in the Philippines called "Intamuros" where u can learn about the Philippine culture, how it used to be Spain, how the Philippines is different from Spain, and etc etc etc.

There are a lot of similarities between Las Islas Filipinas and Mexico because of the history behind these 2 countries. You may find the cultures as well as the traditions very much the same. You'll feel just like home.
If you stay in a hotel, the price is pretty much the same as everywhere else in the world. You're best bet will be the apartelle. However, the rates I believe is on a weekly or even monthly basis. Public transit is available almost everywhere and the fare is one of the cheapest in the world. Check www.wowphilippines.com for more information on Philippine Tourism. The country will surely amaze you.
Mabuhay!

cebu would definitely be the place for you. not too crowded and it has all the amenities found in manila. this december all eyes would be in cebu because of the asean summit which will be attended not only by countries in the asean region but also by leaders from japan and america. historic sites abound in cebu because this is the place that ferdinand magellan(magallanes) met his fate. in preparation for the asean summit, a lot of infrastractures were upgraded and service personnels(hotel staff, taxi drivers and others were trained to be courteous, friendly and accomodating. if you take taxi most of the destinations will cost no more than 3 united states dollars. a good apartment can be had for 200 united states dollars a month. cebu is now being marketed as a retirement haven for overseas retirees both filipino and other nationalities. definitely the cost of living is a lot lower than in any other cities the philippines.

You may enjoy a visit to the Philippines. But as some answerers have pointed out, why go halfway across the world to end up in a country that is almost a literal mirror image of your own Mexico? Political, religious, cultural and social mindsets and practices (Spanish) are essentially similar, good and bad ones. It reminds me of Americans who wish to visit Australia--you hop on a plane for 20 hours and find out when you arrive that you may not have needed to leave home to begin with.
My suggestion if you want something different from your 'occidental' experience, is to go to Thailand, HK and Malaysia.

You are most welcome to come here in the Philippines. For a more secured place to stay, I would suggest that you make your reservation 3 months before your arrival to the Balay Kalinaw International located inside the University of the Philippines. Besides, the campus is "pollution free".
If you need my assistance, kindly get in touch with me and I will help you so that you will enjoy your stay here.
Allow me to greet you a "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!!!"

Definately somewhere in Visayas Province. Cebu is one but there's a lot of them island in there. Not to mention, the Bisayan language is closely related to Spanish. Like: Pantalon, chinelas, horas (oras/time), minudo, adobo, etc. Check their website:

Ginebra is GIN, annoying liquer. this isn't any longer beer. yet it particularly is made by employing the comparable enterprise that made San Miguel Beer. you will possibly p.c. some sturdy nutrition, meat or meaty fish. it would not be so stable with milk or variations thereof, and honestly no longer stable with undeniable peanuts. decide for sisig, be it pork, tuna, or squid. you have crispy abdomen, pata, ulo or the different pork products like chicharon, bituka and bulaklak Tuna abdomen, panga, even bariles or tail may well be super, serve it with warm chili vinegar and soy sauce. some like kinilaw, and sugba kilaw, your determination.
