Mealworms are actually the larval stage of a type of darkling beetle, Tenebrio molitor.
If you look close you can see their six little legs, and their chewing mouthparts. They are insects.
The term 'true worm' isn't really a zoologically valid term, since there are several groups that are labelled 'worms', that aren't that closely related.
Flatworms (Platyhelminthes), roundworms (Nematodes) and segmented worms (Annelids) are the groups most commonly refered to as 'worms'. Earthworms and leeches are types of annelid worm. Tapeworms, liver flukes, Dugesia and the critters that cause schistosomiasis are all platyhelminths. Those could all be called 'true worms'. They don't have legs, and don't turn into anything other than a worm when they're adults.

Your having a laugh surely. I ve just bought a ton of mealworms for £5.22p off a bloke that said they dont and would'nt turn into beetles. Please tell me your joking...I can sell mealworms all day long but beetles... What type of beetles do they turn into anyway ???
If its Stag beetles i might just be able to break even, but Death watch.. No chance...Sh*t.....
