What are some things to avoid while trying to conceive? By this, I mean the obvious, like stop drinking, smoking, etc, etc. But what about non obvious things, like stop drinking coffee, or similar things? List some things that you have heard, or even old wives tales (if you know any).

My husband and I are not trying to conceive just yet, but I'm just curious for when the time comes.
Thanks!

You should start charting your cycle, now, so you will be familiar with the process and your body when you are ready to ttc. Fertilityfriend.com is a great free charting web site and ovusoft.com is great for information and support. There is a section specifically for women avoiding but charting.

Your hubby should avoid hot tubs, wear boxers, dont ride a bike (typical things). He should also start taking a good mens daily multi-vitamin.

You should start pre-natal vitamins. Both of you avoid alchohol, smoking, drugs.
You should also stop drinking caffiene (or cut way back).

That is really about all. Good luck to you.

I know how you feel - wanting to be prepared "just in case"... I have read that using personal lubricants can have a negative effect on sperm; they can kill or lessen the motility of sperm. Also, saliva can kill sperm (yes, it's true, this came from a doctor on-line!) The pillow under the hips is a good tip, get those soldiers where they need to be!

Good luck (for future, "just in case" :0) )

I just started ttc and my doctor said prenatal vitamins and cut way, way back on caffeine better to stop all together. Drink lots of water. Get regular exercise.

Regular strength Aspirin (I've heard that "baby"/heart aspirin may be okay), many prescription medications, and some OTC may make things less than perfect for conceiving.

and the number one answer: avoid abstinence! ;-)

Best of Luck to you!
