It was actually Dennis Law. He went from Man city to Torinio, italy for £100.000. in 1961. In 1962 he decided not to return back to italy as he didnt like the way they played "slow football". So Matt Busby brought him back to manchester to play for united. This time for £110.000

It nearly was Jimmy Greaves but when he signed for Tottenham in 61 Bill Nicholson paid 99,999 for him relieving him of the burden of being the first 100 grand player and indeed it was Denis Law. Alan Ball was the first signing between british clubs

Alan Ball was the first GBP 100,000 football when he move from Blackpool to Everton in June 1966. the fee was GBP 110,000.
