There are qualification games. They will take place in 08/09, it depends whether they win games in the qualifications, we will know by the end of 2009.

the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification will begin in 2008 & AUSTRALIA will know if the team qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals when all qualifications matches will be concluded in November 2009.

It won't be for awhile but I hope they do because they deserve to qualify, they played really well this past world cup!
I'm an Italian fan and if Italy doesn't win the next world cup I really hope Australia does!!

about three years from now. In october/november 2009, unless they get eliminated before the end of the preliminaries.
Anyway, yeah the preliminary competiton ends in late 2009.
