I would say that Dell, and Acer are both good. Stay away from HP. Their tech support people are unhelpful and they don't know anything. Regardless of the brand, check out newegg.com. They offer computer parts and laptops extremely cheap. I swear by them. They ship things withing two days, and they are extremely reliable. Hope this helps!

Well, it depends on what you are going to use it for. If you are going to use it for mainly word processing, spreadsheets, and other basic tasks in that category, I would recommend the HP Pavilion dv2000t series that starts at $600. If you are planning on using it for extreme gaming, music, and CD/DVD burning and other things of the like, I would recommend two things:
1. The Dell XPS M210 - This is one of Dell's most powerful systems with Intel Duo Core 2 processors, and the best graphics cards money can buy. Starting at $1299
2. The HP Pavilion dv9000t - This is an entertainment notebook from HP with XP Media Center, and much more. Starting at $999
Here are the URL's for the Laptop Computers:
HP Pavilion dv2000t: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Usage&v1=Travel%2Fmobility&series_name=dv2000t_series
HP Pavilion dv9000t: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Usage&v1=Entertainment&series_name=dv9000t_series
Dell XPS M210: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1210?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
* Also, HP's tech support is very helpful and won JD Power & Associates 3 years runing for best tech support, and Dell's computers have won PC magazines award in 2003. I know, because I own a HP computer !! *

well that depends on how much you know about computers. Do you want a custom built one from gateway or dell? OR would you want to just pick one already built at best buy or circuit city?
